Much research has been carried out with respect to the marine shrimp culture industry. The list below contains some of the topics investigated.

  • Shrimp disease research: Studies on shrimp diseases and parasites such as viruses, bacterial infections, and parasite are carried out to prevent and detect outbreaks.
  • Animal feed research: Live feed and finished feed for shrimp fry and shrimp rearing are carried out in term of feed quality, feeding method, and effect of feed on shrimp. This information will be used to enhance the efficiency of marine shrimp culture.
  • Culture method and water quality research: Factors on culture methods and water quality effects have been studied e.g. biological shrimp culture.
  • Environmental research: Environmental impacts of marine shrimp culture are studied. This information will be used to develop culture method that has least impact on the environment.
  • Marine shrimp product research: Research on product quality, storage method, and chemical and microorganism contamination have been conducted to produce safe and high quality products.
  • Chemical and therapeutics research: Studies on how to properly and correctly use therapeutic agent and chemicals for shrimp culture including effect on shrimps from the use have been carried out to assist decision making on whether to use or not the therapeutic agent and chemicals to reduce residues in shrimp.

All of the research is targeted to improving shrimp culture methods and transferring the results to other industries and other studies.
